My name is Nathan Habermehl and I am pleased to announce my candidacy for Augusta City Council. I am a 2005 graduate of Augusta High School and life long resident of Augusta. My love for Augusta was instilled in me at an early age as I am the son of the late Louis Habermehl Jr. who was a former mayor and councilman himself. If elected, I plan to work with my fellow councilmen and the newly elected mayor to maximize Augusta’s great potential. The children of Augusta will be a main priority of mine as I believe they are our future. I want to build on the momentum of the Augusta Parks & Recreation Committee to ensure our children have adequate summer and after school programs. The maintenance and improvement of our parks and pool will be at the top of this agenda. Another main focus of mine will be tourism as it is a main revenue source for our town. I believe the Tourism Director should return to a full time position which would allow tourism in Augusta to continue its upward trend from the past few years. We should also work to find new creative ideas for our festivals to attract young adults and families to Augusta. By building on our tourism, I hope to attract new families to our town while keeping the families we already have. Augusta is a beautiful town but I believe it can be even better. There are side walks that aren’t safe, street signs that need repaired or replaced, and dilapidated buildings that need to be addressed. I am asking for your support and vote on November 6th. Together, we can make Augusta an even better home than it is today. Let’s get to work!
