Saturday, January 12, a group of volunteers will host an event that they hope will educate citizens about addiction. “A Walk In Our Shoes – Addiction Awareness” was created by Stefanie Habermehl, a Bracken Countian who has struggled with addiction. All proceeds from the event will go toward helping Finding Freedom Recovery Advocates Inc. and will help establish a regional center to help the addicted. Habermehl would like a center that offers counseling, drug classes, drug testing, referrals, vivitrol, after-school anti-drug programs and many other programs. The event will open at 10:30 AM at the Augusta school gymnasium. Admission is free but donations for attending are appreciated. The first speaker at 11:30 will be Brad Tolle. Tolle is a 2001 graduate of Augusta High School and grew up in Maysville. He is a business developer at Summit Behavioral Health and is the co-founder of Bright Outlook Recovery LLC. At noon, Sarah Jones will speak. Jones is the co-chairman of NKY People Advocating Recovery. After a lunch break, Holly Specht and Noel Stegner from NKY Hate Heroin will speak. At 2:30, Joe Turner of the Joe Turner Effect and president of Stop Heroin Lexington. At 3 PM, there will be a Narcan training and kits will be passed out. At 4 PM, there will be a live auction. The proceed from the auction will also go toward Finding Freedom Recovery Advocates Inc. Auction items are being accepted now as well as monetary donations. There will also be vendors staged at the event. Vendors include: The Regional Prevention Center, New Hope Recovery, Comprehend, Bracken County and Augusta Independent STOP Coalition, MCTC, SALUTE and the Bracken County Sheriff Dept, Recovery Works (Georgetown, Ky), Chrysalis House, Primary Plus Behavioral Health, Narcotics Anonymous, Celebrate Recovery and many more are being added to the lineup daily.
